Metal Forms Newsletter

I dont know how many of your are on the Metal Forms monthly email newsletter, but for those that aren't this month's had some nice insight & good comedy so I figured I would share!

Mel's Mettle
I am Glad that one is over. I am referring to the "interesting" year of 2010. I don't know how most people would sum up their year, but for me, I found this quote to most accurately describe mine: "Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If we quit, however, it lasts forever."

This is a great quote that I am using to motivate me through the next twelve months. The pain of 2010 is over. We all can move on, not look back and move forward to something great to take over in 2011. I believe for the most part, there will be brighter days ahead. We as Americans are stronger, smarter and are more balanced from the hardships we faced last year. The worst thing any of us can do is give up. We will finally break free from this shell we are in.

The one thing I would like to be free of next year is my excess fat around my waist. No matter how little I eat or how much I move around it won't leave me. Kind of like this slow economy we are in. It just seems to stick around you no matter what we do. 2011 is going to be different. I am motivated to get rid of this thing for good. If that means I have to work at it every day; that is what I am going to do. Starting this year at the World of Concrete I am going to walk between casinos instead of taking a cab, I will eat a salad for lunch in place of burgers and fries and I will drink light beer every night instead of the full hoppiness I love. If you see me in Vegas steering away from the plan, just remind me that pain is temporary. Just like my hangover from the night before.

I agree Darin!

Like an old horse with blinders, we just keep trudging along. No sense in moaning about what we can't change. I work all the harder at customer service. I refuse to drop my shorts to get the next job. But if you want me there at 5:00 am, I'll be there...with a smile on my face! I can't tell you how many compliments we get from our efforts to provide exceptional service. The most common comment is something like "We never get that from the drum guys!"

And as a result of our efforts, we get a lot of referrals. We almost doubled our business in 2010 over 2009, and as the economy begins to settle out, I expect we'll do even better this year. As Don Mullin once told me, "You're not in the concrete business, you're in the SERVICE business!!" Truer words were never spoken.

And as for the spare tire? Me and the Michelin Man have been butting heads! I've been on the P90X exercise program though, and I'm kicking his a**! Tough workout and diet plan, but well worth it.

To a better year!
